I'm a day late posting this, but yesterday was the last day of the lipstick challenge. We had two rehearsal room runs so I made life easy and wore my Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in Rhubarb.
And so ends my great challenge, not with a bang, but with a whimper. I do think I will make an effort to wear lipstick more often though. I always think about my eyes to the neglect of my lips and this has taught me not to underestimate a well chosen bit of color there.
DIY, beauty, baking, knitting, and random musings: nothing is off-limits as I blog my journey through life.

Lipstick Challenge Day 6
Yet another day of La Gazzetta rehearsal. It ended up being a longer day than I expected, as me, Jamie, and Kevin stayed late to confer and work on some paperwork. But it was a good rehearsal and I feel prepared for tech. And I got the most amazing sandwich for dinner- turkey, brie, granny smith apple, and fig spread in a panini.
Today I went a little bolder and paired the Clinique Different Lipstick in A Different Grape with a semi-smoky eye. That and all the black/dark colors I was wearing made me look a bit vampy, but I liked it. Forgive my crazy hair. I ended up just wearing it up all day cause it was all over the place.

Lipstick Challenge Day 4 & 5
Yesterday was a truly exhausting day, and as a result, I kinda failed the challenge. I put on my Clinique Chubby in 08 Graped Up in the morning, but rehearsal wore me down and I never re-applied. I went similarly discrete today and wore Clinique Almost Lipstick in Flirty Honey. I have a really bad train station picture to prove it (forgive my red nose- it was cold out!).
And because this post was so sad, here's a picture of the boys giving me stink eye this morning.

Lipstick Challenge Day 3
Today I wore Wet n Wild Coloricon pencil in 664C Fab Fushia with the Lancome Juicy Tubes in Sweetheart on top. I even remembered to take a picture at the beginning of the day. Sadly, I did not get a good photo though. Didn't realize how bad it was until I pulled it up on the computer. I did get a lot of compliments about how nice I looked today. I wore my grey semi-grecian dress with my blue boots. And of course my bright pink lips!
Also, random tidbit, I am apparently on-topic with lip scrub. Pixiwoo just posted about a lip scrub on their blog: Sara Happ Lip Scrub. Seems like an awesome product if you could afford it and/or didn't want to make your own. I'd like to point out that the ingredients are very close to what I used.

Lipstick Challenge Day 2
Today was a really long day. Rehearsal 10am-1pm, and then 5pm-10pm so I took it easy. I wore my glasses and did Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey. Horrible train picture from the way home. I'll remember to take a picture in the morning someday...

Lipstick Challenge Day 1
Today I went simple and easy and wore the Clinique Different Lipstick. We had an odd rehearsal today, 2pm-4:30pm (mostly just working music) and then 7pm-9pm. We were able to go over some of the paperwork and update it which was great. I made the mistake of taking this picture at the end of the day, rather than at the beginning of the day, but, here it is.

Lipstick Challenge!
This week is going to be a long week with a lot of rehearsals so I decided to do something fun to keep my spirits up. I am going to wear a different lipstick every day this week. This is a challenge in two ways: first, I have to make the leap to actually wear lipstick everyday and, second, I have to pick a different lip option each day.
My lip scrub from yesterday may now make more sense since if I'm planning to wear lipstick, my lips need to be prepared! You can't paint something beautifully without a nice, clean canvas first. Also, I discovered yesterday that the lip scrub works well to help get lipstick off (for example, off your arm if you're doing a bunch of swatches).
As a fun intro, I decided to look through all my lipsticks and show them off. For someone who doesn't wear lipstick very often, I had a lot more than I realized. This is due in large part to the plethora of Clinique that Lilly has given me. While I have included all colored lip options in this post, for the purposes of the challenge, I have to use a lipstick or liner from the third and fourth sets as a base or it doesn't count. I can use a gloss or tinted lip balm on top, but the point is to make me wear something with a decent amount of pigment.
First up: Lipgloss!
From left to right: Wet n Wild Diamond Brilliance (can't find a color), Wet n Wild Liquid Lip Color in Rose Gold, Clinique Full Potential Lips in 03 Glamourfull, Clinique Long Last Glosswear in 04 Sunset, in 10 Air Kiss, and Lancome Juicy Tubes in Sweetheart.
I do not wear lipgloss very often. I find I get more annoyed by it than anything else since it makes your hair stick to your lips, etc. I may throw the two Wet n Wild ones out seeing as I NEVER wear them. This did remind me that it wouldn't be a bad idea to bust out the Clinique ones every so often.
Unfortunately I couldn't get a great quality for the swatches, but hopefully you get the idea. The first Wet n Wild one is almost invisible, as you can see.
Second: Tinted Lip Balms
From left to right: Wet n Wild Natural Wear Lip Shimmer, Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in Rhubarb, C.O. Bigelow Tinted Lip Balm in Vintage Rouge Mint, Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Red Dahlia, and fresh Tinted Lip Treatment in Sugar Rose.
I actually haven't been wearing these a lot lately, but they used to be what I reached for on a daily basis since they're subtle but still add a little color. I was surprised at how much some of them popped on my arm, cause I don't feel like they show quite that much on my lips.
Thirdly: Lipstick
From left to right: Clinique Chubby Stick in 08 Graped-up, in 04 Mega Melon, Clinique Different Lipstick in 51 Think Bronze, in 62 Tenderheart, Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, in Flirty Honey, Clinique Different Lipstick in A Different Grape, Revlon Lipstick in Teak Rose, and a tiny random sample that I have no idea where it's from or what it's called.
I may have cheated a bit since the Chubbies and Almost Lipsticks aren't true lipsticks, but I figured they're under lips on Clinique and that was good enough for me. They are what I have been wearing a lot lately since, like the tinted lip balms, they don't shout out that I'm wearing lipstick, but they do add a welcome bit of color. And they feel amazing on my lips.
For the challenge, I aim to try and go with some of the more pigmented options. The point is to be adventurous and make myself feel special after all.
And finally: Lip Liners/Stains
From top to bottom (and left to right on the swatch): Cover Girl Outlast Lipstain in 440 Wild Berry Wink, Maybelline Moisture Whip in 80 Cranberry, Wet n Wild Colorcon in 666 Brandy Wine, in 664C Fab Fuchsia.
Technically I guess these two should be separate categories, but I don't have many of either so I just combined them. The lipstain is what I wore for our wedding. I think it's one I should definitely make an effort to wear this week because it's super bold but also easy to wear since you basically can't wipe it off. As you can tell, this is also the area in which I have the most reds, as opposed to the more neutral tones I generally go with.
To end a very long winded post in a very simple way: Let the lipstick challenge begin!
